Archiving Policy

Digital Preservation and Archiving

The Journal of Economics, Governance and Sustainable Development (JEGSD) is committed to ensuring the long-term preservation, accessibility, and integrity of all published scholarly content. The journal adopts internationally recognized digital preservation systems to safeguard its content against loss, technological failure, or unforeseen disruptions.

National Legal Deposit and Institutional Archiving

JEGSD complies with national publication deposit requirements in Ghana. The journal has been assigned ISSN 3134-5409 Online by the Ghana Library Authority / George Padmore Research Library on African Affairs, the National Agency responsible for ISSN issuance in Ghana. The ISSN allocation requires that copies of our publications be submitted to the Library according to the journal’s publication frequency in compliance with the Legal Deposit Law.

As part of this requirement, JEGSD will deposit copies of its published issues with the George Padmore Research Library on African Affairs to support national bibliographic control, institutional archiving, and long-term preservation of Ghanaian scholarly publications.

 PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN)

JEGSD participates in the PKP Preservation Network, a preservation service provided by the Public Knowledge Project for journals operating on Open Journal Systems (OJS).

Through PKP PN:

  • All published content is securely archived within a distributed preservation network
  • Articles remain accessible even if the journal website becomes unavailable
  • Long-term digital preservation is ensured through reliable and sustainable infrastructure

 LOCKSS Archiving System

The journal utilizes the LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) system to ensure decentralized and resilient preservation of its content.

Through LOCKSS:

  • Multiple copies of journal content are stored across participating libraries worldwide
  • Content integrity is maintained through redundancy and distributed storage
  • Archived materials can be restored in the event of data loss or system failure

The journal maintains a LOCKSS Publisher Manifest page to enable automated harvesting and preservation by participating institutions.

 Metadata and Accessibility

To enhance preservation and discoverability, the journal ensures that:

  • Articles are assigned persistent identifiers (such as DOIs, where applicable)
  • Metadata is structured in accordance with international scholarly publishing standards
  • Content is published in widely accepted and accessible digital formats (e.g., PDF, HTML)

 Commitment to Scholarly Record Integrity

JEGSD is dedicated to maintaining the integrity and continuity of the scholarly record by:

  • Guaranteeing long-term access to all published content
  • Implementing multiple preservation mechanisms to prevent data loss
  • Adhering to global best practices in digital publishing and archiving

 Permanent Accessibility Assurance

In the event that the journal ceases publication, all content will remain permanently accessible through the preservation systems described above.

 Policy Updates

This policy may be updated periodically to reflect developments in digital preservation technologies, standards, and best practices.
